Why Ibiza?
We have always dreamed of going to Spain. I went through a stage where I was obsessed with Spanish TV shows (I still am when I have the time). The way the characters in the shows I was watching were able to express themselves so freely and openly intrigued me. I started listening to Spanish music, making playlists and simply dreaming of travelling there.
I made a playlist and named it ‘a dream’. When the playlist was created, I listened to it over and over again, and I knew one day I would soon make my dream a reality. I felt this sense of connection through TV shows and music. I can’t explain it, but I suppose just a longing to escape my reality and delve into another.
If I have learned anything from my recent trip to Spain is that opportunities are limitless. If we think of life as our canvas, we can paint it however we like and do whatever our intuition guides us to do. In saying this, my short trip to Spain won’t be the last. The Spanish love affair doesn’t end here.
How did we find these spots?
Our friend Kristal grew up in Ibiza and took the time to put together an Ibiza day trip itinerary in order to show us the island and some of its most beautifully amazing spots. This Ibiza day trip itinerary is genuinely a locals beach hopping guide.
The chosen mode of transport
For our Ibiza beach hopping adventure, we had Kristal’s car and hired an extra scooter to add to our convoy. There’s something special about riding a scooter in summer. It sets the soul on fire.
Stop 1: Cala Nova
calva nova was the first stop of the day. Cala Nova is a beautiful beach located on the North East side of the island. It boasts turquoise waters and wavy waters.
There are a few restaurants nearby for food and cocktails which you can either sit at or have on the beach. We enjoyed walking around the rocks on the far side of the beach to see views from a perspective.
This beach can get crowded so the earlier you get there the better for getting a spot.
Stop 2: Platja Pou d’es Lleo
Platja Pou d’es Lleo is a beautiful and quiet cove to visit. It is the perfect place to escape the crowds and enjoy some tranquillity. Since you’re there, you must walk around the rocks of the cover, past the fisherman’s huts and find a rock pool to swim in. Is has a such unique colour palette, red rocks layering the cove.
We also saw some kayaks paddling from here, which would be pretty special if you had some time and booked before your visit. You can also swim right around the rocks of the cove, and if you had snorkelling gear, it would be perfect for spotting some fish friends.
When visiting this spot, you must try pipis, mussels and fresh bread from Chiringuito Pou Des Lleo. The view from this little beach hut restaurant has a beautiful view that looks over the cove. Definitely a highlight of this spot for us.
Stop 3: Cala Mastella
Cala Mastella is another quiet oasis we visited. It is a calm cove and doesn’t get too crowded. There are a few restaurants on the water here you can see by walking around the rocks. There are some great spots to sit and enjoy the view, and you can snorkel around the rocks.
We didn’t spend too much time here as there was a bit of seaweed on the beach, which covered the sand, and we had more spots to visit. Nevertheless, we really enjoyed walking around the rocks and seeing all the different little spots you could enjoy if you spent the full day here.
Stop 4: Cala Boix
Cala Boix is a beautiful dark sand beach that isn’t too crowded, even in the middle of summer. It is a great spot to stop off and jump in for a swim or to look out from the viewpoint at the top of the beach.
Stop 5: Bar Costa
Our friends raved about La Costa, so we had to visit for pre-sunset dinner. You will find Bar Costa in a quiet little town with local shops and restaurants. It’s a beautiful, authentic Spanish town.
The food you order here is a mix of bread, cheese, ham and cured meats. It was so simple yet delicious; I couldn’t recommend it enough.
Stop 6: Benirràs
Benirràs was my favourite spot in all of Ibiza. It was just such a vibe. When you arrive, you first notice the beach markets. You walk over to the beach, and it takes your breath away. To set the scene, we arrived at golden hour; the sun was setting in the distance, right over the water. We raced into the water for a sunset swim to finish the day. They had locals on live drums that echoed through the beach. It was a dream. After the sunset, we made our way over to the drums for a dance while the skies transitioned into the blue haze of twilight.
When we revisit Ibiza, we will most certainly stay in a quieter area. Sant Antoni was great for our first time, but I would love to see more of the island. I’m so grateful to have experienced what we did when we were there. This day was the highlight of our trip to Ibiza.
